Helping women in Bonner's with A Blessed Beginning.
Thankfully our community is pretty conservative and is not generally abortion minded. Our community does struggle in supporting women who are pregnant, who cannot afford doctor's care (and do not qualify for Medicaid), and/or may be fearful of the medical community at large or state agencies for some reason.
Being pregnant, in a low-economically based community, has its hardships, but much can be done with some basic education on diet, childbirth and parenting classes and more.
We need women who can:
Volunteer being a Doula for pregnancy, labor and birth
Official certification not necessary, but some experience is necessary. This is a volunteer position. Most of our clients will be younger girls, who really need a mother figure. Expect to get very involved, from beginning pregnancy into the 1st year after baby is born. One-on-one education.
Volunteer to teach Child Birth Education Classes
Official certification not necessary, but experience with birth and being very comfortable with teens or younger girls who are low income, possibly into drugs, who smoke, who drink and are very unlearned about birth, parenting and pregnancy.
